Košice Airport recorded 11 % growth in the first six months of 2017

Košice, 4th July 2017

In the first half of 2017 Košice Airport welcomed 187 126 passengers representing an annual increase of 11 %, i.e. plus 18 384 passengers as compared to the first half of 2016.

171 722 passengers used scheduled services between Košice and Bratislava, Prague, Kiev, London Luton, Doncaster Sheffield, Tel Aviv, Cologne, Vienna, Warsaw and Istanbul. This represents annual growth of 8 %. Charter passengers were up by 65% which represents increase by 5 686 passengers.

Chief executive officer and chairman of the management board of Košice International Airport, Michael Tmej said: „We haven´t had so good traffic results in the 1st half-year since 2008. It´s great that this growth is driven by a perfect mix of network carriers, low cost segment and improved situation on the charter market which grew by incredible 65 % compared to last year.”

However, high demand for holiday air travel showed that there is not enough capacity on the market.  The head of marketing Juraj Toth: „More and more we are getting feedback that holiday packages with departure from Košice are sold out, especially those on Turkish Riviera. For this there is a perfect solution: 4 weekly flights of Turkish Airlines via Istanbul with excellent connectivity to Antalya. Therefore we would like to encourage passengers to ask their travel agencies for departure from Košice and not waste precious holiday time by transferring to other airports. ”
