Košice has won the internet voting in the competition of Eurowings “Vote & Fly”. In the final on Tuesday 13th March Košice got almost 20 000 votes within an hour what represents 61% of all votes during one hour of live internet voting.

Thanks to this great result, Košice will get a new scheduled route from Eurowings starting from the winter schedule 2018/2019. The exact destination will be announced within the upcoming weeks. It will be a premiere for Eurowings in Slovakia.

Eurowings is the low-cost airline from the Lufthansa Group which was announced as the best German airline in 2017. Eurowings flies to more than 160 destinations in 50 countries.

Chief executive officer and chairman of the board of Košice International Airport Michael Tmej: „Hereby I would like to thank to everybody who voted for Košice in the Eurowings competition “Vote & Fly”. We are very thankful and excited that Košice will have a new route to Germany which is very important market for us.”

Chief commercial officer of Eurowings Oliver Wagner: „We are pleased to announce that our second campaign „Vote & fly“ was very successful and we congratulate Košice to be our new favorite destination. More than 10 million people were reached in only eight days, which proves the enormous success of this campaign. We are looking forward to starting our flights to Kosice from this winter and we will announce the details shortly.”

Mayor of Košice Richard Raši: „Connection with Germany is very important for us from several aspects. Therefore we are delighted that already in October Eurowings will come to Košice. We also did our part with voting and sharing on our social media.”

President of Košice self-governing region Rastislav Trnka: „We are very pleased by the initiative of Eurowings and we are also very happy that the citizens of our region has voted for Košice so massively. In the future we will work very close with the airport and we will support the initiatives leading to more routes and more passengers. Košice Airport plays a vital role in relation to development of the region, new foreign investments and increase of tourists coming to explore the beauties of Eastern Slovakia.”
