Wizzair Košice airport

After more than 4 months, scheduled flights from Great Britain are returning to Košice. Following the decision of respective authorities, Great Britain is listed as less risky country from the perspective of spreading the new corona virus. By this decision scheduled flights between Great Britain and Slovakia are allowed again, as of 20th July 2020.

Partners of Košice Airport have reacted very quickly. Wizz Air re-opened the route London Luton – Košice literally as soon as it was possible. Its Airbus A321 departed from Luton on Monday 20th July at 05:50 with 198 passengers on board. The aircraft landed in Košice at 09:20 and returned back to Luton at 09:55 with 54 passengers on board.

This route will be operated 3 times per week in July (every Monday, Thursday and Sunday. Flights from 24,99 EUR one way (including airport fees and small cabin bag) are available at www.wizzair.com.

Ryanair has reacted in a similar way. In addition, it introduces new airport to the list of destinations available from Košice: London Stansted. The first flight on this route will land in Košice on the 20th July at 22:05 with departure from Košice at 22:30. Originally, Ryanair was planning to fly to Stansted from Košice as of 2nd of April. However, the pandemic has moved this plans by more than 3 months. The flights will be operated twice per week (every Monday and Friday) by the end of the summer flight season. Then, as of 25th October the carrier plans to increase the capacity to 3 weekly flights. Flights from 19,99 EUR one way (including airport fees and small cabin bag) are available at www.ryanair.com

Michael Tmej, the CEO and chairman of the management board of Košice Airport said: „As of today, our flight schedule is a bit closer to look more like the one we had before the pandemic. We´re glad that the Slovak community in UK will now have easier access home thanks to the services of our partners Wizz Air and Ryanair. Statistics confirm that the VFR segment (visiting friends and relatives) is recovering as the first one. Therefore we are pleased to be able to handle passengers flying to/from Great Britain again after the 4-months break and by this to be the part of the recovery of aviation industry.”

After the measures taken to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 were lifted, Czech Airlines and Austrian Airlines have already restarted their flight operations at Košice Airport. Restart of flights operated by the other airlines is subject to a decision of a respective airlines and also of the Slovak government.

The rules for wearing the facemasks at all times onboard are valid for all airlines. Košice Airport recommends to check the detailed rules and recommendations of a particular airline before the flight on the airline´s website and also on the website of Košice Airport.
