436 648 passengers passed the gates of Košice International Airport in 2016 what represents a 6,4 % increase compared to previous year. The biggest share of this increase belongs to regular traffic which grew by 55 303 passengers (+19%). The airport recorded drop of the charter passengers by 25% as compared to summer season 2015. The strongest day of the year was 12th August with 3 058 passengers and the busiest days in terms of aircraft movements was 29th June with 26 departures and 26 arrivals. In total Košice International Airport recorded 9 364 aircraft movements (+11%), 152 727 tons of MTOW (+15%) and 88 tons of cargo (-65%).

Chief executive officer and chairman of the board of Košice International Airport Michael Tmej said: „European airports in Q3 2016 grew by 3,5% on average. We are very happy that we can celebrate another successful year. Because two new legacy carriers – LOT Polish Airlines and Turkish Airlines – is a huge success not only for the airport but as well for Košice and the whole surrounding region. On the other hand, this year was not completely perfect as the whole travel industry experienced significant turbulences. But in general the air accessibility of Eastern Slovakia was improved massively and our connectivity has never been as good as it is today. With the support and cooperation of our partners we are working very hard in order to open more flights to/from Košice in 2017.“

Mayor of Košice, Richard Raši: “Without rich connectivity of Košice Airport we wouldn´t be able to attract new investors to our city. We understand the value of being placed on the routemap of air carriers and therefore in cooperation with our partners at Košice Airport and Košice Self-governing region we want to participate on the further growth of air connectivity of our city and region.”

President of Košice self-governing region Zdenko Trebuľa: “Having four network carriers: Austrian Airlines, Czech Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines and Turkish Airlines together with lowcost carrier Wizz Air is an irreplaceable asset of our region. We work together with city of Košice and Košice Airport to develop air connectivity of Eastern Slovakia even more.

Turkish Airlines, one of the world´s biggest airlines (more than 350 aircraft operated, almost 300 destinations served) is optimizing its schedule: as of 16th January 2017, flights from Košice to the whole world will be available 4 times per week: 2 morning departures will bring perfect connectivity to North America (New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston etc.) and two evening departures are opening great travel opportunities to a bunch of exotic destinations in Far East or Indian ocean (Bangkok, Colombo, Maldives, Mauritius, Zanzibar, Seychelles etc.)

Holiday packages of tour operators for summer 2017 are on sale and there are some interesting new destinations planned, like Barcelona Girona or Mallorca. Individual tickets will be available on board of Czech carrier SmartWings that will operate seasonal scheduled flights from Košice to Bourgas, Rhodes, Heraklion, Mallorca and Lamezia Terme. In 2016 the parking charges at Košice International Airport were reduced by 40% and this attractive price list will be valid also for 2017. Project of toilets renovation has been started and it will continue also in 2017. Website www.zkosicdosveta.sk promotes wide offer of destinations available from Košice. Within the upcoming months also completely new airport website will be introduced
