600,000 PASSENGERS AT KOŠICE AIRPORT

It is confirmed: 2023 will be a record-breaking year for Kosice Airport. Today, the 600,000th passenger passed through the airport's gates. The previous record was set in 2008, when just over 590,000 passengers passed through the airport. Kosice Airport continues to confirm the year-round trend of a significant increase in demand for air travel. In the first eleven months of the year, it handled 11% more passengers than in the pre-pandemic year of 2009, well above the European average.

The 600,000th passenger was Nikola from Kosice, who flew with LOT Polish Airlines to Copenhagen via Warsaw. "I fly from Kosice Airport regularly, about seven or eight times this year. It's fantastic to be able to board a plane in Kosice and, after a simple layover in Warsaw, land in Copenhagen, where I work," added Nikola.

Thomas Dworschak, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Kosice Airport, said:

"It is very exciting to welcome the 600,000th passenger. When we prepared for this year, we didn't expect such a number. I would like to thank all passengers flying from Kosice, the entire airport team and, of course, our airline partners, especially LOT Polish Airlines, that has returned to Kosice this year and connected us to the whole world via Warsaw."

Jolanta Grala-Bednárčik, LOT Polish Airlines Commercial Director for the Slovak Republic, said:

"We are very pleased that the 600,000th passenger this year chose to fly from Košice with LOT Polish Airlines. We believe that in the new year, travellers will continue to discover Polish, European and global destinations on board our aircrafts. For example, we recently launched flights from Warsaw to Rome, and next year we plan to open routes to Athens, Tashkent and Riyadh."

Igor Choma, State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Construction of the Slovak Republic, said:

"I am delighted that Kosice Airport has managed to surpass its historical record and will handle more than 600,000 passengers this year. Air accessibility is crucial for the long-term and sustainable economic development of Eastern Slovakia and I am glad that Kosice is creating excellent conditions for it."

From 27 March 2024, SWISS International Air Lines will be flying to Kosice three times a week. The connection via Zurich provides convenient access from Košice to destinations such as Singapore, Shanghai, Sao Paulo and Johannesburg.

From 31 March 2024, Ryanair will operate a regular season route from Kosice to Zadar in Croatia. Flights will operate twice a week, every Wednesday and Sunday.
